How to Help the Bees:
Bees make up one-third of the food that we eat. Because their increasing disappearance poses a huge threat to mankind as we know it, it is imperative that we do all we can to help the bees. Here are a few tips in doing so:
- Plant bee-friendly flowers and herbs: Planting these will promote the life of bees and ensure that they have access to pollen and nectar. Such flowers and herbs include lavender, rosemary, sage, and sunflower. Here is a link to an extensive list: http://honeylove.org/top-30-flowers-for-bees/
- Don’t use pesticides or insecticides: Pesticides and insecticides contain chemicals that may either harm or kill bees. By not using pesticides and insecticides, bees will have a higher chance of survival.
- Support local beekeepers and buy local, raw honey: Local beekeepers tend to care much more about their bees in comparison to large companies and corporations who are more concerned about making a profit.
- Encourage local authority and government to take action: Become informed on how your local authority and government are tackling the bee issue. If they are in fact taking action by proposing bills or initiatives, support them. Otherwise, encourage your local authority or government to take action.
- Spread the word!: After informing yourself on bees and their increasing disappearance, spread the word to your family, friends, classmates, and possibly community! The more people who are informed on the issue, the higher possibility that people will take action.
